Resting in the Father's Robes

In all of life's uncertainty, where do we find our comfort? Our peace? Our safety? If we fearlessly look deep with in ourselves, we may be surprised at all the fallible idols we have in life.

We try desperately to work for our comforts, peace and safety. A lifetime of plans and pressures go into making sure, one day, our lives will be in such a place. Some call it the "good life". Others call it the "made life". Even more call it retirement! But what does God call it?

Are you tired of coming up short in the areas of comfort, peace, and safety? Do you see those living the "good life", the "made life" and the "retirement life" still trying to fill a desperate void? Do your plans seem frail and fractured?

So where do we go from here?

Last Sunday, I had the privilege of preaching the service at my home church. I taught on "The Abiding Life". After we got home, around noon, I took a short nap and was off to my night job. I have shared in recent posts that my son is going through a "Daddy do it" phase. He has become my Klingon, clinging on to me as if he will never see me again. On this particular Sunday, after I left, young George was inconsoleable. Finally, mommy gave him the shirt I preached in and he put it on and rested on the couch watching T.V.

Do you see how that shirt swallows him up!

This got me thinking about how we are clothed in the Father's robes of righteousness! We, too, are swallowed up in a "cloth" that does not belong to us, does not fit us, but brings us complete comfort, peace, and saftey. We find rest in the Father's Robes of Righteousness!

 Isa 61:10
"I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. "

Phil. 3:8-9
"...I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith."

In those uncertin times we can be certain that He has arrayed us in the Robe of Righteousness, which is not our own, but is Christ! Sure, it's a large robe so it feels like it doesn't fit, but it was meant to swallow us up so that all there is to be seen is His Righteousness.

Resting in His Robe of Righteousness brings the comfort, peace and safety we have always longed for. It fills the void we so desperately try to fill with fleeting things. He is the "good Life", the "made Life", He is the LIFE and in Him there is no retirement!

Now, like my son, go rest in the Father's Robe!
