"Daddy Do It"

"Daddy Do It"
Our Son George, "Little Mr. Independent" is going through a stage where daddy has to do everything for him. Change diapers, "Daddy do it". Read stories, "Daddy do it". Give him a bath, "Daddy do it". Clean up his toys, "Daddy do it"!

Though I admired my son's tenacity for independence, his new found glory of "Daddy do it" reaches to the depths of my heart (and the ends of my strength!). Moments come and moments go for the need of dependence upon our parents. For some of us, those dependent years last too long and for others not long enough.

The Bible puts such a great focus on us being Children of God. He calls us sons and daughters. We become heirs to His Kingdom. Jesus says we must become as little children. Yet, too often we are stuck on being Mr. or Ms. Independent. We think we have life all figured out. Pushing forward in self-sufficiency we loose the sense of "Daddy do it".

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,

We are not servants, though we serve. We are not slaves, though He is our Master. We are not enemies, though we once were. Children! That is what God calls us. Deep within we have that "knowing". The Holy Spirit testifies that we belong to Him. Letting this truth sink to our inner most parts, we will be able to take comfort in the Father to His Child relationship.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart. And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him,  And He will make your paths straight.

"Daddy do it" is a great display of trust. Our understanding seems to lean more on "I can do it, watch me!" When we acknowledge Him in all our ways, the best of Father 2 His Child moments become our daily experience. Asking Daddy to do it isn't a passive faith role, but an active one! Trusting God to be Father and learning to be child is not easy for us "independents".

Whether it is providing food, shelter, job, instruction or even cleaning up our mess; let the prayer of our hearts be that of "Daddy do it". I know I cannot live independent of my Daddy and every time I try to I end up running right back into His loving arms.
