Light for a Dark Night

Tucked away, safely asleep. After long and exhausting days, where do you find the comfort and peace to rest?

God's word is the lamp unto our feet, a light unto our path, and not always the Que beam into our dark nights. Sometimes we are given just enough light to take one more step of faith. The only question is; is that enough for you? Can you find rest one step at a time or does fear overcome when the steps ahead are uncertain and out of sight?

Lisa walks into our son's room to find he has fallen asleep with a flashlight and the Bible next to him. The flashlight is a given. As a matter of fact, George needs two of them to sleep with. The Bible on the other hand is a new and welcomed addition to his already growing collection of items George needs for bedtime. This is all the light my little boy needs for a good nights rest.

Psalm 119:105
"Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."

A mentor of mine once shared this verse with me and added "and not always a Que beam into our darkest nights".  I have always remembered this because on my darkest nights I always want the Lord to show me the clearing before I take my next step. Am I alone in this? Or have you also wanted to see where the path leads before walking a step at a time through troubles?

What I have learned from this somewhat fretful lamp light walk is that God is always leading with just enough Light for me to be left out of control and in complete dependance upon Him! Since hindsight is always 20/20 I can know this to be a great place. Although, each time I have to walk step by step with the Lamp guiding my feet I can find myself wanting a Que beam into the darkness.

True rest comes from knowing that God is in control! With each step of faith we continue down the path that He has set... no matter how dark it may seem to us. I really wouldn't want it any other way. Walking in the Lamp Light has pressed me into God's palm. If I had a Que beam, I might not operate in faith, but in my own understanding.

So, how about you? Are you O.K. with being led step by step by the Lamp unto your feet? Can you find rest in knowing that the very faith it takes to make a single step is the power of God upon your life?

For our son, he has all the Light he needs for this dark night. A flashlight and a Bible.... the faith of a child.
